To ascertain the validity of 360-degree virtual reality videos with embedded multiple-choice questions, this study was undertaken to assess emergency medicine skills.
Five fully realized emergency medicine scenarios, recorded using a 360-degree video camera, incorporated multiple-choice questions for interactive playback via a head-mounted display system. Three distinct groups of medical students, ranging from first-year to final-year, were invited to participate. These included novice first- to third-year students, an intermediate group of final-year students lacking emergency medicine training, and an experienced final-year group with completed emergency medicine training. The calculation of each participant's total test score was based on correct multiple-choice answers (maximum 28 points), and the average scores of the groups were subsequently subjected to a comparative analysis. Integrating usability evaluation, drawing on the expertise of specialists and the experiences of target users, is essential in the development and assessment of digital applications. The evaluation of usability improves the chances of creating digital solutions that are simpler, safer, more efficient, and more gratifying to use. However, the substantial acknowledgement of the importance of usability evaluation is not matched by sufficient research and consistent standards for reporting on the subject matter.
To foster agreement on the terms and procedures for planning and reporting usability evaluations of health-related digital solutions, involving both users and experts, and to develop a readily applicable checklist for researchers conducting these evaluations, is the objective of this study.
For a two-round Delphi study, international participants with extensive usability evaluation experience were recruited. Participants in the first round were prompted to provide feedback on definitions, assess the value of predetermined methodologies on a 9-point Likert scale, and propose further methodologies.
